一、数词的用法-表示倍数
1.倍数 as 形容词/副词原级 as 比较对象；例如：
- Farmers are producing harvests twice as large as before. 农民现在的收成是以前的两倍。
- The number of U.S. citizens 85 years old and older is growing six times as fast as the rest of the population. 美国85岁及以上公民的人口增长速度是其他人口增长速度的六倍。
2.倍数 as many 可数名词复数 as 比较对象；例如：
- Laptop users took twice as many notes as those who wrote by hand. 笔记本电脑用户做笔记的量是手写笔记的人的两倍。
- Your bedroom drawers will be filled with almost three times as many clothes as you need. 要装满你卧室里的抽屉所需要的衣服是你实际所需要的衣服的三倍多。
3.倍数 as much 不可数名词 as 比较对象；例如：
- Everyone will get twice as much personal space as in flats on land. 每个人的私人空间将是陆上公寓的两倍。
- We eat twice as much fish in restaurants as at home. 我们在餐馆吃的鱼是在家里吃的两倍。
4.倍数 the size/weight/depth/length/height/width/population/... of 比较对象；例如：
- Nigeria is three times the size of Great Britain. 尼日利亚的面积是英国的三倍。
- The savanna elephant weighs between six and seven tons, roughly double the weight of the forest elephant. 草原象的重量在六七吨之间，大约是森林象的两倍。
- This room is twice the length of the kitchen. 这个房间的长度是厨房的两倍。
- Vietnam has almost seven times the population of Cambodia. 越南的人口几乎是柬埔寨的七倍。
5.倍数 形容词/副词比较级 than 比较对象；例如：
- Computers that are millions of times smarter than us will have been developed. 比我们聪明数百万倍的计算机将会被研发出来。
- The size of the gap predicted happiness about five times better than income alone. 根据差距的大小来对幸福感进行预测比只根据收入来预测要好五倍。
6.动词 to 数字百分比;动词 by 数字百分比/倍数；例如：
- Over 40% of students are forced to work during term time and the figure increases to 90% during vacation periods. 超过40%的学生在学期间被迫去工作，并且这一数字在假期时会上升至90%。
- The total amount of packaging increased by 12% between 1999 and 2005. 从1999年到2005 年，包装总量增加了 12%。
- Compared with that of last year, our coal output has increased by 3 times. 与去年相比，我们的煤产量增长了两倍。
7.注意事项
（1）如果“增加”用“N times”，则表示增加后的量是原来的N倍，实际增加了“N-1”倍。
（2）两倍用twice/double表示;三倍及以上用“基数词 times”表示。例如:five times五倍 。
（3）表示倍数增减的句子中，谓语动词一般为表示“增加/上升”或“减少/下降”的动词。常见的此类动词（短语）有：
- 增加/上升: increase、multiply、raise、rise、go up、grow up等
- 减少/下降: decrease、reduce、decline、drop、fall 等。
