定语从句是修饰主句中某个名词或代词的从句,在构成定语从句时,常常需要按照不同的语序来组织从句,这里介绍六种常见的语序:
1. 主语从句语序:先引导定语从句,再接主语
例如:That is the girl who won the prize.(那是赢得奖项的女孩。)
2. 宾语从句语序:先接主句,再引导定语从句
例如:I know the place where he lives.(我知道他住的地方。)
3. 表语从句语序:先接主句,再引导定语从句
例如:The question is whether we should go or not.(问题是我们是否该走。)
4. 同位语从句语序:先接同位语,再引导定语从句
例如:The news that he is coming is very exciting.(他要来的消息让人很兴奋。)
5. 状语从句语序:先接主句,再引导定语从句
例如:He chased the thief, who jumped over the wall.(他追赶窃贼,窃贼跳过了墙。)
6. 反义疑问从句语序:先接主句,再引导定语从句
例如:The book, which is interesting, isn't very long, is it?(这本有趣的书不是很长,是吗?)
①倒装(定语从句发生倒装)
On the top of the mountain stands a temple,in whichlives an old monk.山顶有座庙,庙里住着个老和尚
(in which是表地点的介词短语,放于句首引起完全倒装)

②插入(定语从句中加入插入语)
He helped me though he was busy,whichI think was very moving.尽管他很忙他帮了我,我认为这是很令人感动的。
(I think为插入语,插在从句的主谓之间)
③省略(定语从句省略关系词)
I don’t like the gift (that/which) he gave me.
我不喜欢他给我的礼物。(关系代词作宾语可省略)
④数量(表示数量关系的定语从句)
I have read many books,most of which are novels.我读了很多书,其中大多数是小说。
There are 60 students in our class,most of whomare girls.在我们班有60名学生,其中大多数是女生。
(基数词,序数词,分数,百分数,不定代词,形容词的比较级或最高级都可以构成类似数量关系)
⑤原因(句式:The reason why…is that…)
The reason why he was late was that he missed the early bus. 他迟到的原因是他错过了早班车。
( why he was late是定语从句;that he missed the early bus是表语从句).
⑥主谓(注意定语从句中的主谓一致)
He is one of the students who were praised by the teacher.
他是被老师表扬的学生之一。(很多学生被表扬,用were)
He is the only/very one of the students whowaspraised by the teacher.
他是唯一一个背老师表扬的学生。(只有他一个被表扬,用was)
